Hi guys Jo here,

Just wanted to say to Thom's group- well done! Tonight's show went really really well, the audience really enjoyed it (including my mum) and I was both laughing and crying (in a good way) throughout it.

You should be really proud, not only of how you performed tonight but also of how hard you've worked to get to the point when the audience were totally engaged with everything you did.

So, once again, well done guys, what an achievement!
And good luck to Lucy's group too, can't wait to see the show on Friday.

We just want to mention tickets. Entry to RSAMD shows is FREE, but the seats must be reserved in advance as they usually go fast.

here is my bit of writing-
I remember days when the sun was peeking through the clouds. And it was cold, so cold that you could see your breath and catch it in your hands. Days when I would climb trees or spend hours on the swing just going backwards and forwards, or seeing if I could jump off while it was still swinging. I had a different childhood from most people, sure I went to school, had friends, learnt to ride a bike, that sort of thing. But I grew up on a small holding, that’s kind of like a mini farm. We had three fields with a burn at the bottom. We rented the fields out to people with horses. I remember one time I was on Jacob the Shetland pony and he ran under the electric fencing and I had to bend right back to try and get under it. When the ladies that owned the horses came over, they would bring there kids and we would go on great adventures in the fields. One day I was crawling under a barbed wire fence and cut my head. My sister then decided to use a sweetie rapper from her pocket to stop the bleeding and thought it would be a good idea to put my hat on my head to hold the rapper on. I loved those days. I even had a pet pigeon for a while, he was called Harold. I miss those days but I will always remember them.

I'll make sure I know the script inside out for Wed, can you please let me know if there are any changes.

My gran booked a last minute holiday last week over the dates of the show and i only found out today. Theres no way round it and i understand ive cocked up the whole show by doin this but i cant get out of it.

I'm attaching this so you can have a peek at it before rehearsal tomorrow, as tomorrow is going to be quite full on. This script is mainly comprised of text that you yourselves have written, though there are certain sections that I have had my own input into. I will print the script out for you tomorrow.

Important: this is only a first draft, the script is subject to change, but this is the general shape of the show so have a look and see what it makes you think.

Hello all, just a reminder that we're in Glasgow tomorrow.

-Kat will be leaving Cumbernauld Theatre at 5.30 tomorrow. Parents, etc, will be picking you up at Cumbernuald Theatre at 9.15.

-When you get to the RSAMD, I'll meet you at the foyer at 6.30ish, if you're late (don't be late) ask at reception how you get to room AG 12.

-Bring comfortable clothes that you can move in (denim skirt, skinny jeans, maybe not such a clever plan?) and a pen and paper.

- Bring the three words and the instructions for your movements that you created last Thursday (the ones we did to the Muse song). If you can't find the words/instructions, WRITE NEW ONES BEFORE YOU COME - I cannot help you to remember the movement that you created, they belong to you!

Hey, thanks for this post. I think that it contains points that everyone is thinking about right now. I also think it’s good for me, Jo and Lucy to always be thinking about these questions too. There’s a lot in this post, so I’ll try to answer it point by point, but it’s worth remembering that this is just my opinion, not necessarily Jo’s or Lucy’s, and it also doesn’t have to be your opinion either, but hopefully you’ll find it useful.

1) ‘We are making it up and it has NO story line?...How on Earth do you make a performance with NO story line?’

I personally prefer to use the word ‘devising’, or even ‘writing’, rather than ‘making it up’. It’s just that ‘Making it up’ sounds a bit floaty to me… it makes me think of a group of hippies in a room dancing around to The Doors and throwing paint at the wall.

2) No story line – yeh I was thinking about this after last week, and I realised that I don’t really agree with putting it that way.

In my opinion, it’s not ‘no story line’ - it’s ‘many story lines’. The stories are our stories. The stories are us telling an audience who we are and what we care about.

The main difference between what we’re making, and a traditional play, is a similar difference between a soap opera and a reality TV show. It’s not that one is necessarily better than the other, it’s just a choice we make. People enjoy watching a movie because they can get lost in another world. But what makes us want to see reality on display? Why are there so many shows showing real people having makeovers, making over their house, living in a jungle, working in a kitchen, becoming a pop star, etc? Maybe it’s that we can connect with these people in a different sort of way, we can recognise ourselves in it…

3) But where’s the line? I think it would be naïve to assume that we can all just walk out onto a stage, be ourselves and the crowds going to go wild. We have to choose what parts of ourselves we want to show.

Quite a good example of this is in Hip Hop. So, you’ve got that one particular hip hop style which has the rapper listing all the various crimes they have commited, some claiming to have murdered people, etc. Now, we know that a famous rapper isn’t going around shooting people, if they did, we’d hear about it on the news, and they’d probably get arrested. So it’s a show, a performance, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the rapper is ‘acting’, they are simply choosing to present themselves to us in a certain way. There’s no shame in this, this is what we do all the time, for example, I’m very different around my parents than I am around my friends – neither version of me is a lie, it’s all about how I choose to present myself. It’s all a performance.

4) ‘This is going to be hard, really hard!!!’

I reckon it’ll be challenging, but I have so much fun making this kind of work that I don’t tend to think of it as hard. If it wasn’t fun, then I wouldn’t do it.

5) ‘I mean, yeah, Jos a great director but she might help us everynow and then!’

Although we’re still learning, Jo, Lucy and I have been making this kind of work for long enough now that we believe 100% that it works. All three of us are here to support each one of you every step of the way, and have complete faith in you all as young performance makers.

Hope this response helps in some way! I think that being able to question each other, the work (and ourselves) is really important.

Welcome everyone, to the CYT/RSAMD collaborations forum!

We thought that it would be a good idea to set up this virtual space for you to be able to voice your views in a different way. It will also give the three performance groups a way to communicate their work to each other. At the same time it's really important that we are comfortable to discuss our confusions, concerns and revelations within the rehearsal room.

So, how does it work?

Well, if you've ever blogged before, then you should find it pretty simple. Simply find the webpage, log in using the username and password we will have supplied you with, click 'new post' on the top right hand corner, and away you go!

So, for example, if you go home from a rehearsal one night, and you're thinking 'Well making up that dance was fun, but what does it mean?' - don't just worry about it, post it! Then the other CYT members and Jo, Lucy and Thom can view your post and comment on it (or just think about it).

So if you have a thought - don't be afraid to post it, your question could be something that's on everyone's mind, even the directors! Let's enjoy this shared space in which we can support each other, and discuss ideas critically and creatively.

Guidelines for use

1. The forum is a space for the critical discussion of the work, not to moan, nor to complain about your director or individuals within your group. If you are having any difficulties along these lines it is better to talk to your director, or to Kat in person.

2. The forum does not require that you attach your name to a post. It is basically up to you whether or not the post you write remains anonymous. Although Jo, Lucy and Thom will never be offended by a critical comment or discussion (these are the discussion we are used to having all the time to improve our work) we understand that it can sometimes be a little awkward to let people know how you really feel. Do what you feel most comfortable with.

3. When commenting on someone's post, please be constructive. Comments like 'I think you're wrong' do not help the conversation move forward. Come up with different points of view, counter-arguments, etc, but always remember to respect the views of others, whether you agree or not. There aren't any right answers in this type of performance work.
